While browsing at my LFS I found a little packet of plant bulbs that you are just supposed to drop into the water and plants will root and grow from them. They were just $3 for a pack of 6 bulbs so I went ahead and bought them, but I wanted to check here before I put any in the tank to make sure no one had any horror stories about them.

The front of the package says

"Live Aquarium Plants"
"Easy to Grow"
"Hardy Aponogeton Bulbs"

The back of the package reads as follows:

"Live plants are essential for a well-balanced aquarium. Aponogeton bulbs are one of the easiest aquarium plants to grow. They thrive in almost all water conditions. Just drop the bulbs into the aquarium and watch them grow (6" to 8" in just 15 days). As the roots develop, the plants anchor themselves or can be planted in gravel for faster growth. The lush green leaves provide a rich, natural background in any aquarium. Provide them with at least 8 hours of light a day for fastest growth. In 3 or 4 weeks your plants will have white and pink blooms. These can be cut off to promote steady plant growth.

Anyone ever heard of them before?

i bought some of these (or something similar) from walmart, and none of them grew in 2 months, so i tossed them!

I have three apongeton bulbs growing in a 5 gallon and my girl has two growing in her 29. Be patient with them. Bury them in the gravel and give them PLENTY of time to grow. Just because 20 days goes by doesn't mean they wpn't grow. I have a lilly growing and it didn't sprout until a few days ago. I'm not sure how long it sat in there but it seemed like over a month. So yes they will grow and be very pretty just be patient. Oh btw make sure you're tank has about ten inches of water in it.

Thanks, Torrean. I was going to put them in my 20 gal and its about 18" tall so I should be okay. I was waiting until I do a water change tonight to put them in. I will be patient with them and see what happens. :)

My wife had bought them for me at wal-mart. They grew, all doing well. Have some in a 20 and 55. Take a while to start but once they do, they grow like weeds
