Woke up this morning went to feed fish like usual. When I opend the lid to feed them there was a lump of what I think may be eggs however am not to sure. Pic of it bellow can anyone tell me what they are and if they are eggs how long they may take to hatch and eggs for what and should Iget rid of them (already have fry guppys dont want anything else right now)? Thanks.

I currently have in my tank, 2 adult guppys, koi angel, black angel, 11 Neon Tetras, discus fish? (think thats what its called not to sure), an apple snail and 2 baby snails that are just in my tank that appeared from no where and I've decided to keep them as a mate wants one when its big enough. Also got around 20 guppy fry in a breeder box which is right bellow the lid so if these "eggs" had to fall then theyd be in with the babys lol.

Thanks.

Must be the apple snail. No fish can lay eggs on the upper inside lid

In fact, it's definitely the apple snail ;)

Should I keep or should I just get rid of them? Many do they usualy have?

If you have the space - keep them and sell them to your lfs (or they might give you credit). But keep in mind that they are waste producers too !

You might want to check if your LFS will take the snails if you go down that road. We had a huge problem with snails (not apple) and the LFS wouldn't take them. I could pull 50 at a time out of the tank. Any time I put a nice looking plant in the snails would eat it all. I ended up finding the best method was to remove them and feed them to my yabbie. He loves them. :D

Would it be ok to remove the eggs from my tank and put them in another? I don't really want them but one of my mums friends said shed take them off us and seeing as I cant be botherd with the hassel of raising them she said shed take them as eggs if its possible. Could this be done and if so how? Would it just be ok to put them in the other tank and leave to sick to the bottom or something or would you have to put them on the outside or something?

Thanks.

I am not a snail expert but I think they would be dammaged easily if you tried to move the eggs. If you don't mind if some die it would be worth a shot then you don't need to pick them out of your tank later, but I would leave them just out of the water like they are now in whatever tank you put them in.

I don't think it would be a major problem to scrape them off gently and put them in some of your tank water to transport to her tank. It's worth a try at least. But make the period of time between the move from your tank to her tank as little as possible.

Most lfs would take applesnails as they sell (generally) very well and aren't exactly cheap.

MTS, ramshorn etc. the almost certainly wouldn't ever take.

OK might just keep them then.

1 more question then I only have the one snail so obviously its female. There are 2 smaller ones but I doubt there big enough but will the eggs definetly have snails in them or will I need another male to make them pregnant?

You would need a male to fertilise the eggs, but she might have already been carrying fertilised eggs when you got her. How long have you had her ?
