just been looking at my Red tailed Black Shark.... Its eyes are swollen and its mouth is swollen and damaged. Looks like the lower half of the jaw is badly hurt and it doesnt close its mouth fully. Also its breathing rapidly.
To me one of the other fish has bit or its caught it mouth on something sharp! is there any way i can help the poor thing?

Poor thing... if you have a quiet hospital tank you could transfer him to, that might be good.
The gill movement being rapid is likely stress and the physical damage; don't understand the eye problem though.
You could try treating with Melafix to help heal him, but if he's not making any sign of recovery after a couple of days....

Can you test your tank water for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites and post us the stats please?
Does the mouth look like it is eroding away or wether it looks bloody and torn?
I would do a 50% water change with dechlorinator ASAP, the swollen eyes sound like pop eye or cloudy eye, both of which are related to stress of water quality issues and doing a large water change followed by some small ones over the next couple of days will help combat this.
How many gallons does the tank hold he is in and how long has it been set up for and what and how many other fish is he with?

Sounds like the fish has a bacteria infection so i would issolate and medicate.

PH=7.0 AMMONIA= 0ppm NITRITE= 0ppm and NITRATE= 10. So the water is in good condition.

Tank is 140 litres.

He is hiding at the mo so i can`t get a good look, but at the time it looked like the lower jaw had been torn down as normally there mouths are like a slit shape. Is it possable he could have some sort of swelling in mouth and that is what is causing the eyes to bulge? I have been told "popeye" only effects one eye at a time.

I agree with wilder, anti internal bacterial meds will help cure his mouth and eyes(pop eye can effect 2 eyes at once as well as just one), you could also try a watered down dose of melafix as well to help speed up the healing process :) .

Bless him, don't want to be mixing meds in the tanks so it would be best to issolate, does he have whitespot as well, the illness are mounting up and once they do it's very hard o cure a fish, with secondary infections so fingers crossed.

This will be my 3rd bacteria prob within 3 weeks! first was slime/velvet which the shark had quite badly but made an excellent recovery... then just after one of my bettas had really bad white spot which as only just gone, however one clown loach as it slightly which is why im carring on the white spot med! And now this!!!! :no:

Well i woke this morning to find the shark dead :sad: was going to get it a hospital tank today aswell. it was out and about last night and i got a good look at its mouth, it had been biten as there was flesh hanging off. Just dont understand what could have done this as he was the hard boy of the tank! One of the female Bettas must have cought him off guard.

Sorry that's awful,R.I.P. bless him
