Here's a link to my journal where you can check out my tank:

I have come to realize that I have all 'Asian' plants in my tank minus my Anubias Barteri. So since I will be getting Hengeli Rasboras, which are also Asian, I would like to keep the entire tank Asian.

Do you have any recommendations as to what I could put in place of the Anubias that would be in the Asian biotope?

Also I am very open to moving things in the tank around plant-wise. The rocks w/Riccia and driftwood I would like to keep in place however.

Thanks in advance! :good:

From the list of plants you have in your blog then you have the gayi which is south american, The Otos are also South American.

The ones you have aren't Otocinclus Vittatus as you have put. They look to me like Otocinclus Macrospilus. The difference is on the Vittatus there is a visible white line between the black stripe and the grey upper body. On yours there is no white line and the black stripe is not seperated from the grey upper body.

It is quite common when buying Otos to get a mix from the same LFS tank so you may have different species but the pic you show is defo not a Vittatus.

You also suggest maybe trying Glosso which (according to Tropica) is from Australia!!

Gonna take a bit of pulling and adding to get a true asian biotope here!!

Those plants you have mentioned (gayi/glosso) are from my 10 gallon tank... This whole tank started as a 10 gallon, and then I ended up upgrading to a 20 gallon.

The plants that are now in the 20 gallon are:
giant hygro
riccia (cosmopolitan)
hygro difformis
(and the mentioned anubias)

I am well aware that the oto's are not asian, but I am making an exception there mostly because I like them and they keep my tank clean...everything else in the tank I would like to fall in to the Asian biotope however.

Also, thanks for the correction on the type of oto. I only went by what the LFS had said they were... it is much appreciated!

Sorry I just read the blog and assumed they were all from the same tank. lol

No probs with the Oto Ids. There are several varieties of Oto but LFS call them all Vittatus unless they are the Cocama Zebra which is significantly different. I bought 8 some time ago in a previous scape and they comprised of 3 different varieties!!! :).

How about some ferns? Many sifferent types of Microsorum.
