What temperature do most of you keep your platys at? Most info I've found says anywhere from 64-77 degrees F.

Don't want to deal with fry and from what I've read it shouldn't be a problem to keep only 3 males or 3 females in a 10 gallon?

As for other tankmates, ghost shrimp will be in there. I've thought about possibly going with a couple Cherry Barbs as well. Anyone aware of any fin-nipping problems between cherrys and platys?

Not sure about that, though barbs are finnippers.

The same gender tank should be ok. If you decide to add platies of a different gender, just lower the temp to decrease the activity and increase gestation period.

I'm not sure about the comp. question but the temp. should be between 69-78. They will eat their own babies.

That's what I thought as well. But after researching and asking around I've found that generally speaking cherry barbs seem to do well with platys. :dunno:
You could try keeping barbs and platies together. I bought cherry barbs and platies when they were young, so they kind of grew up together

The barbs did get kind of agressive though. Make sure you have plenty of hiding areas so the platies can feel safe.

As for the temperature, I keep my platies at anywhere from 70-77 degrees.

Well, hopefully I'll get lucky and they'll all get along!

We may even just leave it as an all platy tank, but get different kinds of color variations.

If they're not too aggressive, the plants should really help. If you have the room, keep more barbs in the tank so they only direct aggression towards each other.

68-77 is the best, IMO. It keeps metabolism and activity down, ths reducing amount of food eaten, amount of waste, and aggression.

Well if I add another cherry barb it'll be another female so it'll be a 1 male and 2 females. Along with the 3 platys and 5 ghost shrimp. There are plenty of plants and hiding places in the tank as well.

Barbs of any kind should be kept in a group of six, that way their agression will be between themselves.

As the above quote says 10 gallon imo too small for barbs.
