One of my platys had fry last week. I can't be sure exactly when, but probably Wednesday or Thursday. The fry are living in the community tank with 3 female platys and 6 hengel's rasboras. I don't know how many I have as they are in hiding, but I don't think there are more than 5 surviving now.

I have a number of questions, and I hope that some of you nice people can help :)

1. How old do they have to be before they are safe from being eaten by the adult platys?

2. How old do they have to be before I can tell which are boys and which are girls?

3. At what age can they start breeding themselves?

4. I bought the platys at Maidenhead Aquatics. Do you think they will take some of the babies back? I don't even expect to be paid for them, I just want to rehome them as my tank is too small to keep them.

Thanks everyone!

I've answered one of the questions. Maidenhead Aquatics are happy to take the fry in 4-6weeks when they are about 1cm long. They don't pay for them, but they will take them.

At least I know I have somewhere to send them if any survive :)

i can answer one of your questions - your fry are in danger until they are larger than the largest mouth in the tank! you may want to consider getting a breeder net to put the fry in until they are large enough to rejoin the community.

best of luck!
