I'll be getting a spawn-sib female with each of the two new boys I'm getting and I'm new to keeping girls so I have a couple of questions. I want to make sure I'm doing this right!

Assuming lots of space (I've got a practically empty 12g and 6g they can go in) can the girls go together into a tank? I know that girl sibs can go together but what about non-sibs? Should I get/do I need a couple more girls to spread the aggression around?

I know I can't put boys with guppies, how are girls with them? Same problem or are they ok?
Likewise tetras. I've got some neons and I know that they tend to be nippy so I don't put them with the boys either, but how are they with girls?

p.s.
Anybody have some good betta names?
One of the boys is a red double-tail crowntail, the other is a blue butterfly.
We're considering calling the blue one Brutus because he's got shoulders on him like a wrestler!

In the 12 gallon I would pit 4-6 female bettas and that is it. In the 6 gallon, I think it is too small to be used as a female community. One female would be fine in there though. I keep my females with neons and no-one has nipped fins and they don't even chase each other. I've kept my girls with platies, but not guppies so I am not sure on how that would be. :dunno:

I have one female Betta that's fine with Guppies. I also have one female Betta who was in the tank for less than two seconds before she removed the tail of the nearest Guppy. It just depends on the female.

Two female Bettas MAY be okay together, especially if you have a dither fish in there with them like Zebra/Leopard Danios (at least 6 of these, to prevent them from harrassing the Bettas). I have two female Bettas together because the third one died recently, and they don't fight. But it depends on the females. Some females are simply more aggressive than others. And just because they're more aggressive with other Bettas, doesn't mean they're more aggressive with other species of fish. The female I have that lives fine with Guppies will not stop fighting with other female Bettas. The female I have that removed the tail of the Guppy is currently happily living in a female tank with four other female Bettas.

I wouldn't COUNT on them being good together, but it would be okay to try it.

2 females can sometimes be put together and they will be fine towards each other, but it is also like you CAN house two males together, but it isn't advised. I would get 4 or more females. I think 4-6 would be fine in the 120 gallon. Just make sure there are lots of hiding spaces and plants.
