i am currently living at college and i was gone for 3 days while my cycle was going in my 15 gallon tank. not many choices. i did a 50 percent change before i left and when i got back. i have a couple questions as to what might have happened. keep in mind that my ammonia was zero before that water change and it was zero 2 days before that.

- a snail was stuck in the filter. i have an aquaclear for 30 gallons. his "head" was inside the tube that sucks up the water. does any one know if this is how he died, or that he died and then got sucked up into it. i just want to know because i am not going to buy another snail if this is what happens.. it was pretty sick to deal with and i felt very bad.

- also my ammonia was back up about .5 ppm so i did a 50 percent water change and it only went down to about .25 ppm. is the jump due to the dead snail or has something gone wrong in my cycle, which has been running for almost a month know and i had nitrates and nitrites and no ammonia previous to this weekend.

PLEASE HELP!!

Probably just a freak accident, would be hard to believe a small internal would be powerful enough to suck up a whole dead snail :) and yes, the rotting of the snail will of inreased your ammonia. Not the end of the world, if you want another snail just cover the filter inlet with filter wool/sponge.
