My cycle has accelerated much faster han I expected thanks to some media from Minnnt so I'm now looking for some planting options for my tank.

It's a Fluval Roma 240l with the standard 80w lighting, black sand substrate (about 2-3 inches as an average), and will have Corydoras, Plecs, Cardinal Tetra and some Pearl Gourami in. The tank also has three large bits of bogwood in with plenty of holes in to put some plants in

I'm looking for any suggestions anyone might have as well as reputable sources for them online if you have any.

Hiya, I was about to post the exact same question. Do you mind if I haunt your thread? I just bought two tiny crypts of some sort and I actually have no idea if they are fine in low light. I have an anubis plant on my driftwood that looks great after 3 weeks, but those are def. fine with low light.

By all means. I think I'm just going to have to go to the local aquatic stores and see whats on offer. My tank is probably technically going to be ready for fish come the weekend but I have no idea if I'll be planted in time for that so it might have to wait until Friday next week :(

I was going to give the plants a few days to settle a little. We shall see! I could end up coming home from the shop on Thursday with loads of stuff lol.

I do have three big bits of bogwood so I don't actually need THAT many plants even though its a 4ft tank.

As I've found out in recent times, not all Anubias species are dwarf plants that only grow a few centimetres tall. You could tie some Anubias hetrophylla to your bogwood, my newly purchased ones are ~20cm tall with broad ~10cm leaves.

Turns out Crypts can do well. I wrote Minnnt yesterday asking for suggestions since he just won Tank of the Month with a low tech tank. He said crypts will melt and then recover and be fine... then listed these...cabomba, limnophila, elodea, java fern, anubias, moss, hygrophila and vallis (eventually) that can do well too.

:good: Now we have a good place to start.

ohh the tall anubis sound nice...I love the leaves of anubis plants..bright and broad

I've just ordered some from ebay. I went into a shop today and they wanted like £5 for a little pot which pales in comparison to what I can get from ebay.

I ordered

100g of java fern
50 assorted plants
50 Sagittaria subulata Dwarf Grass

for £32 posted. Possibly too much but that's fine.

Friday is planting day and insertion o the rest of the bogwood day. I have one piece that is about 27" by 15" by 4" so it should look great in my 4ft!
