My EI tank has been running for about two and a half weeks now and all the fast growing weed types have more or less reached the water`s surface, so I am after some pre aquascaping help. I want to change things round in a week or two, by which time I will have hopefully defeated the algae in my tank. The overall look I am after is for mid/background plants with small leaves, such as the needleleaf Ludwigia already in there.

My Hygrophilia Polysperma has huge leaves at the top, up to two inches long with a pinkish tinge, as opposed to much smaller leaves lower down. I want to keep a dense bush of this, so does anybody know how to prune these stems to keep it bushy and with the smaller leaves?

I have seen threads that refer to a particular plant as HM, or is it HC? Anyway it is a green stem plant with delicate looking needle like leaves. Anybody know what I am talking about?

How big can the leaves get on Hydrocotyle Leucocephella?

Thanks, Dave.

I have done a little searching on the Tropica page at Aquaessentials and have come up with following plants as possibly fulfilling my requirements. Does anybody have any experience or advice on the following?

Bacopa Australis. I was wondering whether the leaves will stay small? I like their round shape as a contrast to some of the needle shaped leaves in the tank.

Hemianthus Micranthemoides. This probably answers my HM question.

Eustralis Stellata. Apparently this plant can give a good indication of when fertilisers are running low.

I have 3WPG, pH 6.4, EI fertilisation and CO2 at 30ppm (I think/hope) in 120l.

I am having some of this plant in my tank, its leaves never seems to grow much larger than I first bought it.
