Some opinions?

Well for christmas, i am getting a 55 gallon set up from my girl friend.

I will be using Dark sand about 3 inches of it. a dark black or dark blue backround.
aiming towards heavily planting with alot of grass types in front, some vals in the middle and bushy plants in back. a big peice of bog wood in the middle of the tank with java moss on it. I will prolly buy or make some sort of C02 system if not i will use regular ferts.

I'm not sure on lighting so could i get some advice on that?

fish that will be in it--

about 20 cardnal tetras, 10 albino corys and prolly some sort of dwarf gourami.
but im open to all suggestions.

Your tank setup almost sounds like my 55 g setup. I did have about 3 inches of sand(reduced it), big piece of drift wood in the centre(and off to the side) and I have 7 cories. Oh cant forget the tall bushy plants that i have in the back too , but the vallis are in the 35g. Close but no cigar. We must think a like .
