As some of you may or maynot know ive got a current problem having had bad lfs advice regarding bettas. Once these have been sorted i would like to add something else to the tank. It is the juwel 800 (just under 30 gallons) . In the tank i currently have some guppys (five or so) and 6 minnows. I would like to add a species which is an easy breeded and will do well in a tank with the current occupants. Any ideas?

thanks, jorel

the minnows may breed, and the guppies certainly will, if youve got M+F's but youll be over run with fry if you have, cories are a easy breeder that one in my profile pic i bred. thats a peppered cory, pretty easy to breedin the right conditions, big leaved plants and sand is prefered. and its rare the eggs make it through though due to algae

Yes i have male and female guppies, two of the three females are due to drop soon i think. Does the algae posion the cory eggs or something? What sort of temp do corys need to breed?

the algae makes them go bad due to lack of oxygen, google "breeding peppered corydoras" and see what you can find, its important that you do some research yourself.

How does the atmospheric pressure drop? is that like before a storm and things like that?

it drops when its warm, and then because theres loads of area not occupied by air, the cold air is drawn in (cold front) the atmospheric pressure rises and then it brings crap wther with it

Hi windhopper :)

I don't know what your current problem is, but if you have good water circulation (too much for a betta) you couldn't find better citizens for a peaceful community tank than corys. They are active and playful and will not eat your guppy fry. They do need to be kept in groups of 3-4 or more. The more the better.

Peppered corys (C. paleatus) are good, but I also like bronze or albino C. aeneus. :D

Thanks. The betta issue is - i was sold 3 bettas, 2 female, 1 male to go in the one tank i have along with my guppies and minnows. Obviously the bettas are now evil to my other fish and the two females are constanly stressed out.
