Hi all, I posted this here before, but I didn't get any responses and I can't find it anymore so I guess I'll repost (hope no one minds).

I'm having some trouble with scent control. There is a strange musky smell coming from my fish tank. I don't know what it is. I KNOW it's not Ammonia because ammonia levels are at 0, nitrite levels are at 0, ph is around 6.5.

My best guess is that it's coming from the fertilizer I'm using in my planted tank; my bowls don't have this same problem.

I was wondering what can I do to mask or remove the smell? I have thought about buying an air purifier but I'm not sure what good that would do.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

hey jkun, when i had live plants and used fertilizers my tanks also took on a simular smell, i stoped useing it after a while and my plants were still ok, im not sure what kind of plants u have thogh so it could be a bit differant for you. hope i helped a little ;)

I put in my mom's air purifier to see if it'll help. I've gotten so immune to the smell that I don't notice it anymore and none of my family members wants to try for me. I'm in a bit of a bind  but I think the machine should help.

it might be the filter media or not enough water changes becuase my community 29g has that nastyish smell to it also and it goes away with every water change and filter media change.

Ok... how often should I change water for a 10 gal?

Is there anything I can do to mask that horrible smell?
