:X My 55 gallons plants have some algea on the leafs.. what should I do?

I have co2 and the plants grow very fast.. the algea that was on the glass has died off but it is on the plant leafs themselves now.. what is up?

I even have fast growing stem plants.. :/

What type of algae is it? Also what are the tank stats?

I dunno, it is brown..

Tank Stats:

Co2: -shrug- give me a chart and I will tell you
NitrAte: 0
NitrItes: 0
Ammonia: 0
KH: 1  (needs a water change)
Size: 55 gallon
WPG: 3.6 (50/50 10,000K/Actinic 03 Blue 10watts X 4)
DIY co2 (3 cups of sugar, 1 tsp spoons of yeast)

CO2 calculator

How come you've got 0 NO3? That could be the reason for the aglae, I keep mine at 20ppm as lower levels can cause some types of algae.

Ah, well that makes sence.. I hope my ferts arrive soon.. I ordered form Watson and it shipped on the 29th. :X

one quick question, how do i add them? just add a good dose and keep adding till my NirAtes get jsut alittle reading?

I wouldn't do that. That link I gave you has another calculator for working out dosages of stuff like this, I would make up a stock solution by mixing some in a 1lt bottle of RO water, then work out the ammount you need to add to get the required NO3 level.

Still seems odd to me that you've got no NO3 in the tank already very few tanks have zero NO3. Is the tank fully cycled yet?

mm.. cycled.. I am working on that.. :S It was cycled but then went into a crazy fit.. I am currently cycling a Rena XP3 canister on my 72 bow front... once it is cycled I will place it on my 55 gallon and put the 55 gallon on my 72... then i will be able to properly cycle it.

Right now ammonia chips at keeping my fish alive. :D but one plus.. this morning I tested (before the lights came on) and there was 10 ppm NitrAtes.

I tested my stuff

KH: 31
PH 7.6
CO2 ppm: 23.361

those good?

I would imagine kh is so high because PH is high thus it has to go somewhere? :S I don't know.

Hum is that KH 31dKH or PPM? There is a big difference. I take it you have a CO2 kit running on the tank?

BTW when you're dealing with pH/CO2/KH its always the pH that changes. I.e if you change the KH the pH will change too, but the CO2 stays the same. Eqaully if you change the CO2 the pH will change but the KH stays the same. You cannot increase KH and get more CO2 it doesnt work like that :)

oh well.. 31 KH degrees. :/ Yep.. 31 drops and shakes into the tube...

well I let my co2 run all night and it is currently 32.247. My NitrAtes are 0 so I added a table spoon full of nitrate and sulfate potassium mix into it. :/ I am sure it will be gone by night.

Still algea.

How much plant life do you have? And whats the fish stocking level?

I am going to try and start getting some nitrAtes into the water Via more feeding.
It is a 55 gallon..
it has this much plant life & this many fish (6):

Well the tank could I guess be using up all the NO3 that you add, you do have a lot of heavy feeders in there, but the gold fish should be producing quite a bit too. Humm not sure whats going on here.
