so can anyone help me out and explain what the best way is to do it.

Thanks lanni

The best thing to do would be to remove all the fish, put them in a bucket with tank water. It might be a little cramped but this is alright as it will only be for a short period.

The best way to clean sand is to put it in a bucket and stick a water hose in it untill clean water runs out...you will lose some sand this way. There are other ways but I am not sure of them, others will let you in on these secrets.

And I am not sure why you would boil the water? This is unnecessary, having a good filter and proper water changes should keep the water clear.

Please ask more questions if I have not answered what you would have liked.

Hi, give yourself a good hour or three to get the sand as clean as possible before removing the fish....then as advised above put the fish in a bucket or other suitable container....if there's enough room stand your filter in there as well [to help stop your good bacteria from dying off].
You don't need to boil the 'new' water as long as you use a de-chlorinator on it, also make sure to get your water temp the same as that of the bucket before returuning the fish to the tank....you can do this by firstly testing the temp with your hand and then by swapping the water in the tank for the water in your bucket and vice versa [use a cup or a jug], this will get the fish used to their new tank conditions.
Most of all.....don't rush, your fish will be fine as long as you take things slowly and carefully.

Good luck....and don't forget to post some pics of your new set up!
