Hello there, This is my first post, so Hello! :good:

Now, I decided to set my tank up again last night after around 3 years of having no fish, So up into the attic I go to get my tank, The heater and filter didn't look too healthy, lol.
So I started searching on google for some tank setups as I fancied something different this time. I really like the look of sand instead of gravel.

Off I went to the local pet store last night and got a new Heater + Filter. I seen some black sand that looked nice so I got that too.

Heres the weird part!! I was rinsing it out, Not much dust in the sand but I rinsed it thoroughly (It was still black at this point!)
I put it into the tank and spread it around on the bottom (It was still black at this point!)
I rigged up my homemade device that attaches to my tap to fill the tank (It was still black at this point!)
Whilst it was filling, I removed the filter and heater from the packaging and rinsed them (The water was still black at this point!)

Basicaly i'll cut all the crap out, lol.
I went away to make some dinner then came back into the room about 20 mins later, The sand was the same colour as the sand at the beach!!!

I bought black sand because I wanted black sand

Does anyone know what on earth has happened?
The water is clear as anything, And i'm completely baffled!

At the pet store there was lots of different colours of sand:Orange, Red, Yellow etc.

Thanks for any help guys! :good:

sounds to me like the dye they used on the sand has washed out.
if you want black sand try Tahitian moon, it is quite expensive but stays black.

Well I was just home on my lunch break....
My flatmate said "Look, Your sand is black again!!"

I walked over and it was black as black..
I turned on the tank lights to get a better look and it now appears to be the sandy colour.

So basically when there is no lights on it looks black, When the lights are on, It's a sandy colour... Great lol

Its even black when you lift it out with your hand, How annoying :(

Anyway cheers for the help

Hello again :)

My tank has been setup for 3 days now and the water seems to have gone cloudy..
Ive setup many tanks in the past and normaly its cloudy for a few days then gets clear.. Not the opposite, As it was clear when first setup.

Heres a pic, Not sure if it will be much use but i'll add it anyway:
