Hello everyone,
Can i use the sand from the beach and clean it with the fresh water then use it for the live plants? I leave 10 mins away from the beach and soil here looks more attractive than the soil in the fish store. I wanna try it but i don't know how it works. has anyone tried this before?

Thanks

I wouldn't, it probably contains salt amongst other things

There's an incredible amount of salt in sand from the beach - it'd kill off any cories, shrimps or snails you had in the tank. It'd play havoc with other fish also, you'd end up with lots of salt stains in/on/around your tank and filter, too i imagine.

If your beach is anything like my local beach then you don't know what nasties might be in it apart from all the salt it will have in it

I'm guessing it wouldn't be worth the hassle having to wash out all the salt...

it would be hard to tell when the salt was washed out id imagine, unlike dirt you can physically see.

You also have to remember that beach sand is made from crushed shells, that could alter your ph, tbh I'd leave beach sand where it is

I was thinking
put the sand in the buck
put the boil water into that bucket
leave it there for couple of days
wash the sand with fresh water many times

bacteria and salt all gone hehehehe

what i worry is that it might cause the pH

keep Brackish fish

Get playsand; cheap and won't mess with your pH/hardness.
