Hi
I bought plants from a good company 3 weeks ago they all came as cuttings with no root as yet formed it looks like i am going to lose most of them all, the end of each stem has gone all soggy like it is rooting i checked my water and all seems ok PH 7.4 the rest pretty much zero. What is the problem i am new to plants so i guess i am doing something wrong , i guess i should go for plants that need very little looking after. As for water conditions what is the best ?

Many thxs

Hi Robert!

I need to know what your tank set up is before I can tell you what you need to do to improve it. I need your lighting (type, watts), how big the tank is, substrate, plants you have, what all of your water values are, filter, fish....I need to know it all. The more info I have the better the chances are of finding out what's going on.

It depends a lot. However, a very rough rule of thumb is that you'll want 2 Watts per gallon of full spectrum fluorescent light per gallon. Once you've got that, if you browse Tropica's plant list looking for plants that want medium light, match your water parameters and are flagged as "Easy" or "Very Easy" you'll probably be okay.

Frequently, stem cuttings are damaged at the lower end. It is always a good idea to trim any damaged looking stem away with a very sharp clean knife. Be careful not to do further damage whilst weighting them or binding them. Damaged stems will simply rot.

Obviously, if you have plant eating fish thats another story.
