as per my other thread http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/413357-black-sand-users/

I am looking at buying switching from my white sand substrate which i hate as it shows up all the dirt every single day even after cleaning and doesn't look great.

I thought about changing to black sand as this might hide the dirt better but not sure if it will and will be a shame to spend all that money and find it hasn't fixed the problem.

I only was considering sand due to having a lot of catfish such as cories, BN's and syno's

BUT will they be okay if i go for a really smooth soft rounded kind of gravel  if one exists?

IT MUST BE FULLY BLACK, and safe for the bottom feeders as then it would be perfect as it would hide the dirt too !

Has anyone got any advice on what i could use....or could share any experiences whether it be black sand or black gravel and if possible  upload some pics to show me !!

Any advice much appreciated as i have to make a decision this week and buy it asap !

Im after the exact same thing....my white sand like you said shows up everything so frustrating...looking for fine black gravel too

the more im looking at it, i just dont think even the finest black gravel will be fine for cories and other catfish

saying that, i am in love with tahitian moon black sand as it is exactly what i want HOWEVER i have read a lot of people say its too sharp.....but then at the same time i have seen so many people keep it with cories and they seem to love it burying through it....

unless there are two types of tahitian moon black sand which a lot of people have suggested.....
