Could you use soda water or carbonated water as a source of CO2? Isn't is just water saturated with CO2? or am I forgetting something.

Not sure, but what is wrong with simply injecting CO2?
Also, it would be quite hard measuring the amount of CO2 actually going into the tank. Likely hood is, is that you wouldn't know and so would end up with varying levels or high or low amounts. All of which are really not recommended for the planted tank

You could, Takashi Amano even has a nice story in 'Nature Aquarium World' book one about him discovering aquatic plants benefiting from extra CO2 using carbonated water.

I used a bottle of carbonated highland spring water on a jar full of aquatic plants on my windowsill, but only for funsies to see the pearling oxygen bubbles.

It's OK to experiment, but not at all practical for aquarium use, for the reasons above, plus the price and the fact that you would constantly be having to add bottles of water.

And you also killed a tank fill of fishes. =p Adding Selzter water is inconstient, and runs out fast so unless you have a Autodoser
