So, With Platys And Swords

Alright, I have 4 swordtails (2 fem, one male, one undetermined) and 5 platys(4 females and 1 male) plus two baby swords (bout 4 weeks old)

What I want to know is, Is it common for the 6 known females to all be pregnant and about to drop at about the same time every cycle? Meaning at least 5 of the 6 known females are very pregnant and 2 have squared off, theres a few fry hiding in the plants... Im use to one or two at a time, but ALL of them?

I've never heard of such a thing in fish, but I know that women who share a house find their 'cycles' synchronise, so it's not impossible!

Perhaps they release hormones into the water that cause them to become fertile at the same time; they certainly release hormones that inhibit growth (which is why fish who don't get enough water changes don't grow properly).

Or it could just be a coincidence. It's a very interesting question though.

So, I captured my spotty platy this morning around 10:15. I placed her in the floaty breeder box, went and took a nap. A few minutes ago (2pm) I checked on her, she delivered about 30 fry (from what I can count as they dart everywhere. Mom is back in the main park of the tank while babies are isolated.

Im use to my swords giving birth to like 10 fry. but 30?! I know its not unusual, just a first for me...

Congrats! I would love to see a pic of the mother. Sounds pretty. Make sure to not let those baby hormones build up in the breeder or the fry will barely grow! Thats a lot of fry! I only has three :3

same thing happened to me with i kid you not a flat black guppy i wanted to buy him so bad but my mom wouldent let me and --- i also wanted to breed tAT MALE WITH A WITE FEMALE AND Have some kick a cuties
