About a month or so ago we got a 60gal orb tank from some neighbours 3 doors down, whom were getting a bigger tank and more fish hence the surplus to requirements orb. We decided to hop it to the local fish places around and about the town on the bank holiday monday (we had gotten the tank and filled it etc on the Saturday to let it warm up and the like), and we came away with enough fish to fill the tank but not so much that it was overcrowded, and we were told what we had would be just fine. So what did we get?

1x Red Tailed Black Shark
2x Hong Kong Pleco
5x Zebra Danio
2x Blue Platy (both female)
2x Sun Platy (one female, one male, coincidently we had two baby fish swimming about the following day..although they didn't last long)
2x Loaches
2x Gourami (I forget the exact type, but again one male, one female)
10x Neon Tetra (unfortunately we're down to 7)

As we've got another tank on it's way, or maybe at least depending on it's size as we don't have much space, we were going to put the slightly overly boisterous Danios and the Loaches in the new tank just for the fact it does seem a little over crowded now that some of them have gotten bigger.

Now you'll notice the Loaches are in bold, well that's where my pondering comes in...we just don't know what kind they are, nor do our fishy-friends nor the place we got them from. At first we thought they were Clown Loaches but the books and Clown Loaches themselves put that idea to rest. Below are some images (sorry about the quality, my phone doesn't do well without the flash and I didn't want to blind the poor things. We've looked absolutely everywhere we could to find out, but a las no clue

The water is digusting. Sorry to say but this my opinion. The tank is overstocked.

yo yo loaches i think.

stocking sounds ok for a standard 60gal however orb tanks give less room so maye it's a little over. given good filtreation it could work. look up the RTBS for temprement etc, i can't remember if they are one of the nasty aggressive sharks or not but you may find as it gets older it gets aggressive and will need re-homing.

Paul, that's a bit of a harsh response don't you think. they've said they've had problems taking the photo. I know I've taken pics of tanks before and spotless water has looked dingy and horrible.

is the water really that colour or it a result of the dodgy photo would maybe have been a more appropriate response if you wanted to address that issue.

Actually the water is quite clear, as I say I took it on a phone that doesn't do well without the flash. As for the tank being over stocked, yeah we're well aware of that now but when you get told by so called experts it'll be fine there's not much you can really do after you've bought them.

@ Miss Wiggle, thanks for the response. Good to have at least a suggestion of what they are, can look into it more now. Hopefully the new tank won't be too long coming so we can give the fish some more room. It was probably a little silly on our part getting 2 loaches and a shark as there's not much in the way of hiding spots bar plants and the big centre piece cave.

Water is disgusting is a little harsh paul_219... and they look to be Pakistani, reticulate/ yoyo loaches ( all three names are the same thing) and looking at the tank it doesn't look overstocked for mine but not sure about the hong kong pleco's. The tank is STOCKED but with good filtration seems ok to me...The water could have algae or tannin in it Paul which may give a colour difference but the water isn't bad anyway

glad to hear the waters better than it looks in the pic.

but there is something you can do, you can re-home the fish, take them back to the lfs, gove them to your friends with a tank, advertise them for sale in classified ads. there's always something you can do ;)

True, true. I have considered getting a tank for my room too (so including downstairs and the one we'll be getting soon that'd be 3 total) and putting the loaches into that one with maybe a couple of other fish, nothing spectacular mind you...I just have a love for those loaches lol.

ha ha oh dear, it seems you have a bad case of mts, you may need to see a doctor to get this treated

if your not in the know mts is multipe tank syndrome, it's an accursed disease us fishkeepers all struggle with, just gotta have one more tank  ;)

lol, yes it seems that way. As soon as we got the fish in the first tank my step dad started off with "Gotta get a nice big tank for the other room now!". Naturally my getting a tank depends on other things...where to put the gerbil and where to put the scorpion tank.

scorpion!! cool, got any piccies....... we like pics on this forum :D

I'll try get some soon as I can, she's a very withdrawn scorpion, rarely comes out when I'm around. Shall also post some pics of the tank later seeing as I have plenty on hand.

It is a botia histrionica NOT a yoyo.

It looks exactly like THIS picture.

They are similar in color to the YoYos, but notice that yours lacks the alternating forked vertical bars and dots that are common on YoYos (botia almorhae/lohachata).

B. Histrionica is actually alot rarer IME, so it's not surprising many people think it's a yoyo.

I'm guessing he's about 2 inches long based on the gravel size?

Yup, not surprising you haven't heard of it. i've never actually seen one in shops here in the US (I always look at the loaches first too :good: ).
