My poor little guppy was looking more than a little pregnant the other day and seemed to be strugging a bit. I separated her out so I could keep a closer eye on her and so the other fish wouldn't bug her. Yesterday I saw that she was continuing to rub her belly against things, so I thought she was either really close to giving birth or having some difficulties. This morning she was still alive and no babies, so I gave her some food hoping it would help her. She wouldn't touch it. Around noon I noticed the troublesome stringy white poop coming out of her, but I also saw some definite baby movement inside, so I didn't want to interfere. I shut off her lights thinking it would help. Around dinner time, still no fry and she was looking lethargic. I tried to reach in to help her a little, but she got freaked, so I just let nature take its course. An hour ago I literally watched her die. As soon as I was sure she was gone, I tried to squeeze on her belly, hoping that since she just died I could at least rescue some of the fry. About a dozen fry popped out...all fully formed and obviously ready to be born, and all dead
. I am so depressed. I keep wondering if there was something I could have done to save her or the fry or both.
The trouble is that I think she was just too little to give birth. She was about 3 or 4 months old. A whole bunch of her sisters who were born at the same time she was, are also beginning to look pregnant...although probably a week or so behind where she was. I don't want to lose all of them. Is there anything I can do to help them? They are just so small, and I think the babies are just killing them
