hi sorry if this post is going to be a lil long but i have a few things i need answered lol i purchased a rio 240 today (man i didnt realise they were that big lol) the thing is it dont have a lid with it as it was second hand so here are my questions if as many folks can reply so i can get ideas thanks

1)do i need a lid? if so were can i get one ? and how much will it cost?

2)a few of my mates think when its full of water it ll be heavy should it be ok? i live 1 floor up andhave a concrete floor i have a 20 gallon against 1 wall and the rio will be going to opposite wall at different end of room

3)i want this for tropical fish but it was used for a marine so i can still smell salt etc what is the best way to clean the tank out? as it is a large tank after all lol

4)what is the best way to get the tank up and running ? put some water from my 20 gallon in the rio ?

5)after i have had the tank up and running what fish do you reccomend from my signature to transfer over? as i do have a 5 gallon tank with some fry that i was going to put in my 20 gallon

any other thing i have miissed out and you can think of will be appreiciated if you do mention as i need ideas and answers lol thanks joe :D

sorry can only answer one you need a lid in case you get jumpers!

I can answer 2... I think.. ok you need a lid for the light and to stop jumpers as if you have a comminity tank then alot jump.. also to stop dust and stuff getting in.. and they look better with a lid ...

it should be fine if you have a concrete floor and a proper stand for it. make sure that its level though..

oh i can answer 3.. the person who had it before probably just emptied there water out so there is salt residue.. just use warm water and swish it with a soft cloth...

You don't need to worry about the weight, the appartment can handle it. A lid isn't detrimental but will help keep water from evaporating and help keep fish from jumping.

You really don't need to worry too much about the marine aspect of the tank - try to scrape as much salt as you can from it but keep in mind that people purposely add amounts of salt to their freshwater tanks in much higher doses then would get dissolved from some leftovers on an ex-marine tank.

Water from your 20 won't do anything since it's nothing but old fish water, but anything with bacteria on it can be a big help in jump starting the cycle. Taking some filter media from the 20 and placing it in the filter of the Rio is the best for this, and second is pretty much using anything from the 20 gallon tank with a surface - gravel, rocks, fake plants etc. Don't add anything to the new tank until there is a source of ammonia in it, otherwise all that bacteria will just die off.

ok thanks for the feed back so much still to do then lol just a few questions remain now ie

I can answer this one. My dh used to work for the water department and they had to know all kinds of weird things. Anyway a gallon of water weights 8lbs. But I'd think with a concrete floor you'd be ok.

You should be able to get ur lid at ur lfs; if not check on ebay or amazon
