i have a beautiful red and purple betta, he was in my main tank until he started fin nipping everything in sight. so hes now in a 1 gallon tank on his own.

i think hes lonely, he seems bored in his tank until he sees me, when he gets all excited. is there anything i can do to stimulate him more when im not there or add anything to his tank which he wouldnt fin nip.

i have a female betta in my main tank is it worth setting up another one gallon tank next to him with her in?

now im back in college i cant give him all the attention he wants, and i dont want him getting depressed.

I wouldn't add anything to your tank for two reasons... first, because it's way too small for anything else, and is borderline even just for a single betta, and second because most of them much prefer to be on their own. I'm sure he'd LOVE to be next to a pretty lady though, and that surely would keep him entertained. :D Some other things you can do is let him see his reflection in a mirror for about 20 minutes or so a day (flaring is kind of like "betta exercise") or give him some sort of "toy" like floating a ping-pong ball in his tank for a while or putting various colorful objects just outside his tank for him to look/flare at. :)

i was hoping the answer was not to put anything else with him, i think he does prefer to be on his own. thankyou for all the ideas, i will deffiantly give them ago and see how he reacts :)

cheers
