my platy is seriously pregnant- i thought i saw a little platy in my tank so i took my platy that was bulging and put it in a huge pitcher of the tnak's water--- i didn't have a breeding tank/net-- i was in a hurry also-- but i came home tonight and saw 2 live babies, and 1 dead one. i put the mom back into the 32gal with the other fish--i don't really know what to do from here.. should i just risk the fry's lives in the big tank or what? someone should just tell me what to do b/c i really have no idea...

I used to just leave my platys in the main tank and lots of the fry survived - so many that I got some angel fish to eat them (didn't have the tank space to raise them all). I now have my platy girls in a separate tank.

If you want them to survive I guess it depends on what other fish you have. Baby platies are pretty nippy.

Ok, no need to panic, we all go through this stage: For hints and tips see the stickey threads at the top of this section of the forums.

I Doubt thats all the young that she will release, but you may find many young in the tank: Some will survive in the tank, particularly if you have cover. If you would like to increase the survival rate you can use a breedy net or an additional tank.

If you have further problems or need advice just msg me.
