I bought 4 angels about a year ago, two paired off in a 30G and the other two have each claimed half of a 55G. The two in the 30G and one of them in the 55G seem to be a more normal size, but the 4th is getting quite large. (S)He's currently 7.5" tip to tip, and the body is about 3.5" in diameter. What's really interesting is that the area above it's mouth & eyes is thickening - much more so than any angel I've seen before, but not disturbingly so. It also has a odd lower jaw - it looks more like a scoop that the lower jaw of the other angels. How big can I expect it to get? Is it about done growing?

Is the ultimate size of them a function of the size of their habitat or diet?

It may get bigger, fish grow throughout their life, but tend to slow down with time. Fish, like many other animals, have a size range, you just have one that is closer to the upper end. The thickening of the forehead probably indicates it is a male, as does the increased size. Sounds like a normal, nice angel to me.

The ultimate size is a function of habitat, diet, and genetics.
