Hiding behind the aqautic plants.
I went to the local pet store, and I cam back with a filter, a plastic plant, and a new betta girl. The power filter is for my girl tank, as they dont have one yet. But I will wait to get the heater, because prices for heaters were outrageous!! (like 50 dollars ofr a non-submersible... )

Anyways back to my female, she is very small (probably still only a few months), and is a blue with a reddish tint (will get pics by tomorrow most likely) She is beautiful, and was the only one in her tank.

Now to my question: Why in the world is Zara (my other female, whom I tried breeding but it didn't work out (will try her again in another week or so)) flaring and posing for the poor little thing, and nipping her and chasing her around (almost like a male would do) is it because that is what the males did to her?? And is she just copying what she saw the males do??

Anyways, they are overally both happy to have a friend.

To keep females in the same tank you have to have more than two. It is a bettas nature to be territorial, so this new girl is basically invading your other females space. If the girl you just bought is as small as you say she is I would get her out before the dominate (alpha) female kills her. I suggest purchasing another girl, but again there will still be bickering until the pecking order is established.

you said that heaters were outrageous, if you don't spend a bunch of money and get a good one, you will be back in a few months buying the good one.

with heaters, you get your moneys worth
the cheap ones don't last long.

with females you want at least 4, otherwise they will fight.

i have two female sisters bettas together and they are fine but then i am getting more it would be different if they were not sisters

I think they have already established a pecking order lol. The new female is pretty submissive... And I will keep in mind about the girls. I have to go to my lfs sometime this week for a male betta for a friend so I will buy maybe buy one or 2 then :D

beware, your female might be a male for the following reasons:
flaring
not able to breed
