Hi

I inherited my tank and most of its inhabitants a coupe of years ago.
It wasn't until recently i identified my large Gourami as a Snakeskin,
its a 3ft tank and at the moment the Gourami is about 6 inches.
Its in there with a Kissing gourami of about 4 inches and all they do is bicker and steam about after each other. :/

I know it will outgrow the tank but how quickley do they grow.

Its a dull looking thing too, are they popular amongst Gourami fans???

Hi Alkalineroger :)

The snakeskin gourami (Trichogaster pectoralis) is not too often seen in the lfs these days, and for a good reason. They do grow to a good size and are dull compared to their smaller relatives.

In some parts of the world they are valued as a food fish. :(

Here's a link with more information about them:

Strictly speaking, if you have a kissing gourami, you should have a tank big enough for a snakeskin too. The size difference is only slight with snakeskins averaging at around 8" which is also the size of normal kssing gouramies (though snakeskins can get to 10" in some cases). The minnimum tank size, I believe, is considered to be a 40 gallon.

I guess they aren't the most popular fish but I like them. For their size, they are quite peaceful. I would actualy say three-spots are more aggressive (though their size means they can't do as much damage).

Like other gouramies, they grow pretty quick.
