Ive been looking around for fish to restock my 21G and a few places say about dwarf snakeheads and that they can live in a 20G. Theres not much info on them so i was wondering is there actually such a thing and could they live in a 21G?

you have dwarfs like Channa orientalis max around 4inches...Channa gachua which usually max around 8inches and a few others but it depends on the footprint of the tank and if your planning a group or single species or even a breeding pair? Also would you have any intention of an upgrade?

The tank is 70X30X45 cm. However many really im not to bothered how many there are. A breeding pair would be nice but i dout my tanks big enough. I cant see a upgrade any time soon.

I'll PM you a site where there is a lot of info on snakeheads.
you could get away with a group of 5 gachua in my opinion until a pair forms then the others would have to go! you could also have orientalis or ortapinnis maybe assams. :good:

Thanks. wont the gachua get to big if they get 8". Would a breeding pair be ok in a tank that size? ill he able to get a couple of smaller tanks about 10G to raise the fry in.

I dont think so, I think they would be fine. I kept a group of 6 in a 120l which was 24" long 18" front to back and 24" high. I got another group of 5 so moved all 10 to a 200l when the runt died.

I quite like the look of the assams but from what ive read they really dont like hight temps which might be a problem because i couldn't get my tank below 28C a few weeks ago.

My tank was running at 30 if its only for a short period they will be fine! Its only when youy keep them at high temps permanently then it becomes a problem!

Fair enough. I think ill have a look into the assams then. Whats best to feed them?

Mealworms, bloodworm, beefheart, flake, pellets, krill, prawns, tubiflex even algae wafers! They will eat whatever they can get in their mouths!
