hi all has anyone got any info on how to get rid of snail(AUSTRAILIAN TYPE) from a fish tank i have tryied picking them out and don't know what else to do i'm picking about a hundred every morning please help

Hi......I don't know what"australian type snails" are.....but if they are the same pesky type snails we get in england ,,,,the best thing to get rid of your problem are any of the "botia" species of loach.
They love to eat snails as part of their main diet.

If the snails are a pest put a lettuce leaf in the tank at night, Turn out the light, and pull it out in the morning. It should be covered with snails, Repeat untill you have no snails on the lettuce in the morning. A few snails can be beneficial to tank cleaning though. I have 4 mystery snails to clean ornaments & some malaysian trumpet snails to keep my sand from getting packed.

loach that tank up. mine ripped through all the snails in the tank in no time at all. i give him snails from the other tank as a treat every now and then

With as many snails I now have in my 75 gallon heavily planted, I don't know if California or Florida has enough lettuce to keep me supplied.

another measure you can take is to look real closely at your water line. If you see any little white dots smush um.

You know those little containers that you get camera film in !?! well if you make some holes (big enough for snails to get in), then fill it with salad leaves or peas, leave it overnight and take it out in the morning, it will be full of the little buggers and you can get them out in one go

sorry to hijack the post but i recently tried the lettuce in the tank trick and it didnt work. i woke up in the morning and there was no snails on the lettuce. so i thought it would be a good idea to get a clown loach. that also doesnt seem to help any bit at all.

oh yea my tank has gravel in it if that helps explain my situation a bit better.

I bought a proper snail trap, it worked well until one of my smaller mollies trapped itself in there! The fish was ok. Next time I am going to wedge the entrance up against the side of the tank and only use it during the daytime so I can check for silly fish! :)
