I had a snail the other day and now i have about hundred snails!!!! how do i get rid of them!!! (i dont want to get rid of them all) but there are toooooo many. :look:

I heard aquarium salt works well, I have used a product called 'rid a snail' and that worked for me but takes a little time.

I would assume if you used aquarium salt you would have to do it slowly as to not harm the fish. :(
Maybe someone else knows more…

I think with snails, its all or none. :S

Get some clown loaches. They are notorious for eating snails.

I only have mollies in this tank and they like salt anyways dont they so it wouldnt harm the fish if i out salt in but would stop the snails..... are you sure that this will work!

No, I am not sure; I only heard that from a pet store merchant.
You should look into that more before using straight salt.

As said I used a product by the directions and this resolved my problem.
I am no expert so all advice is opinion based only.

Good luck with your snail infestation… :D

i have some aquarium salt, so ill add a dose and see what happens! thanks for your help!

Personally I don't like adding chemicals to my tank if possible as everyone in the tank is exposed. I personally just add Yo-Yo loaches to my tanks. They are small and do a fantastic job.

However, if you do a search in the forums you will find a few other popular methods. This being other loaches and lettuce.

Good luck snail hunting :)

you could put in a piece of lettuce overnight and the snails should crawl all over it.

however, what kind of snails do you have? are they trumpet snails? or pond snails? what do they look like? some may not be as harmful as you think :)

Snails, :hyper: They are deadly, once you get them you will have them for life. I used the rid a snail, followed directions and killed all my guppies with that stuff. If using it be careful. The LFS here do not recommend that stuff at all.

Best way, a clown loach will definatley eat them but will not get rid of them forever. They get into the filters and lay eggs and they keep a nice supply of food for Mr. Loach.

I have also done this, not recommende unless you know exaclty what you are doing.

I took a whole tank apart, rinsed the grave, filter, and tank with a bleach solution. Threw out the media from the filter and replaced it with all new stuff. After the bleach thing that sat in the in tank, gravel and filter for 5 days, lots of floating dead snails. I then rinsed till I could not rinse no more. Very very important you rinse repeatedly. I then set up the tank again, with no live plants as you will almost be guaranteed of live snails using them. I had no snails at all. But you then have to cycle all over again.

So my recommendation is, don't worry about the snails to much. They can be unsightly but will not harm anything really. My 25 gal has hundreds of them, they don't bother me to much but I am going to get a clown loach to put in there for some cleanup on these little buggars.

Good luck and have fun....bugsy :)

i dont know what type they are, but the are pinkish in color and a have a spiral but flat shell if that makes sense!

ohhhhh noooooooooooooooooo ive just seen sum that look different where did they come from blasted things!!!! i have one of these though in a different tank and they are ok, its a browny greenish color with a sort of pointy shell!
