the snail population will decrease based on the amount of available food. So make sure you vac thoroughly with water changes and dont over feed. I found that by feeding once a day and skipping one day a week that the snail population in my 20 gal livebearer tank almost completely died out without doing anything else other than maintenance and adding a lettuce leaf or cucumber slice at night and removing in the morning. It only took a couple of weeks as well. HTH
i don't think a water change will do anything to cure that problem. one way to get rid of a bunch of snails is to put a piece of lettuce in there at night and in the morning there will be tons of snails on it. just remove the lettuce and that should get rid of a lot of them. then just repeat.
i heard that about the lettuce but then I heard it doesnt work but i havent had snails before so I will try and i was trying to cut down how much i feed - i have a sneaking suspicion i am feeding too much anyway. dont know why. thanks!
