I know that my Nerites can't reproduce in freshwater. I have seen some ramshorns. Both are fine for a planted tank, I think. I see many baby snails all over the place now, must have come in on the giant hairgrass. They are rally going at my wisteria, but I fear it will get worse. I've got two Botia Striata in there. Will adding more solve the problem. I don't want to harm my plants or nerites...what would you do?

Pick out as many as you can see.
What kind of snails are they?
Pond? Trumpet?
You could always sell the extras you get on ebay. People actually do buy them (for some reason lol).
Or if you're not squeamish... you can squish them and let your fish eat the juicy little morsels.
Or weigh down a lettuce leaf before going to bed, and in the morning, pick it out along with the snails on it. Put back the ones you want to keep, and toss the rest.

I don't know what kind of snails they are. I supplement with calcium and buffer with equilibrium (PH 6.8; now to slightly hard side). I didn't think netires couldreproduce in fesh wter, but it may be possible that these are nerite babies. I have seen an adult trunptet snail near the 'babies' and on the glass of my tank when the moonlights are on. The other possibility is that pond snails, which I am afraid of, came into the tank when I recent planted giant hairgrass in the background. They are multiplying quickly. I am making a snail trap, and I will probably transfer them to the clown loach tank after I catch them. The two botia strita in the tank are not taking care of them. I thought of adding more striped loaches, but I don't know. Can't use any kin of chemicals, that's for sure. At any rate, the wisteria is rally the only plant being eaten often at this point. Snails seem to love wisteria, and since the nerites and trumpets don't seem to eat this plant as adults, I can only surmise that it is pond snails. May be wrong, of course.

i had snails in my planted tank and they were great. kept the algae away etc. i know it may seem like you have zillions of them, but ime, their populations are self-limiting based on available food. out of a TON of babies, only a few made it to be nice healthy adult snails. i think snails are GREAT!

i am not a sqeamish person, but hearing the cracking of the shell against the glass made me freak out :look: lol.

none of the snails will eat your plants unless the are rotting.

^^^^^^^^^^Really? No species that I could have in there would really damage my plants? Interesting. Hey Aaron, by the way, what is the current situation with that manzanite tank you were starting? Did you plant it???

well i had ramshorns & MTS in my 60l, and apple snails in a previous tank.
Nerites i havent yet kept, but i know they are ok.

My tank has about 5 pots in as i ordered them while they were half price at AE :) The other 25 are set to come in next wednesday.
