Ok so i've got around 10 snails spread across my tanks (not sure what there actual name is) but it's these-

Just wandered...

Do they and how do they breed? I heard a snail can impregnate itself? I've just noticed two of them sort of attached to eachother a lot.

In my tank too... i've got these little ones that have come off of the plants... do i remove these or will they serve a good purpose?

Finally!... I am looking to invest in some more snails, any types i should avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, don't recognize it, but as for types to avoid, probably those that overpopulate, such as tiny brown snails or mystery snails.

Well, Nerite snails are brackish water snails (I believe) and they are generally good snails to keep. Small snails that come off of plants are usually ramshorns or apple snails, they multiple like mad on you so I'd highly reccomend removing them. As for snails to add the the tank, if you have a sand substrate, Mylasian trumpet snails are very good for churning the sand.

In regards to the breeding of Nitrite snails, I don't know. Check the web, I'm sure there's info on them out there.

Hope this helps,

Ryan

Those snails are sold as zebra or tiger nerites (depending on the shop). I have 2, and also a ruby nerite. They don't breed in freshwater but they do lay eggs which never hatch. I have eggs stuck all over the wood in my tank, I've given up trying to remove them and I've got used to them now!
Nerite snails are the best algae eaters I've ever had, but take them out if you ever put any medication in the tank.

Yer the guy in my LFS told me they're buggers to get rid of. I don't know if he meant these particular trumpet snails but he showed me some and said once you've got them, you'll find it hard to get rid!
