My uncle has a tank and he got 4 mystery snails which he says are keeping his tank algae free. i was wondering if this is true because if it is I am going to go get some this weekend.

I've kept several in the past and they did a great job on the plants and ornaments, they mostly ignored the algae on the glass though. If you overfeed your tank you will find they will ignore the aglae completely, though they do need some food supplement. I gave mine an alage or regular bottom feeder disc once a week. They are heavy waste producers, so you'll want to consider that.

Mystery snails being Apple Snails? If so then yes they eat Algae, just be prepared for their full grown size...people seem to forget the can hit 5". Also be aware Apple snails dont half make a lot of waste.
