Hi I am new to the fish world and my tank has been over taken by snails and I keep taken loads out but they keep appearing it's doing my ed in any ideas?cheers!

Cut back on how much you are feeding your fish. Overfeedng can fuel a population explosion in snails. Depending on the size of your tank, you could also add some botia or clown loaches. They love to eat snails. Are they regular snails or the trumpet snails (long spiral type shells)?

Yeah I think It's cause I have been feeding them alot, it's just that my guppie as just give birth so I am feeding them more!I think they are trumpet snails but can't be sure!my tanks a bit on the crowed side so I don't know if this is something to do with it? I really need another tank but gota wait till I get paid! Thanks for ur advice!

Hi there thislittlefishy!
:hi:

Snails are a pain in the backside. I just added mollies to my brackish water (BW) tank and took some of the plants from my currently snail free fresh water (FW) to give them something to hide behind. The other day I noticed tonnes of tiny baby trumpet shaped snails everywhere!

Not sure if the eggs came with the mollies or if they were on the plants and waiting for the right conditions. It's a bit annoying because I was planning on getting some snails for both tanks anyway, but I wanted to choose them!

At the school I used to work at we bought snails or they came attached to live plants that hte girl i worked with bought, can't remember, but had same problem. I think it's best to do whateveryou have to to get rid of them ASAP, i don't remember, but I swear some got into our filter system and clogged stuff up.

If you buy plants, you will get snails with them. Trumpet snails are good if you have sand as they keep the sand from compacting and having any pockets of gas form in it but they are also a pain in the rear. I ended up having to do a 100% sand change on my 29 gallon because of a trumpet snail explosion. I'm sure it was due to overfeeding. All you can really do is cut back on how much you feed or try to take them out by hand but some of them are so small you almost can't see them.
