I love a richly-planted tank, but I also love my snails... (Seven species I can identify, and several that I can't – all are lovely; interesting; easy to keep alive; easy to breed (sometimes too easy); but all worthwhile...

I put fresh supermarket veggies in the tank every night; cucumber, courgette, lettuce, spinach, plus local bog plants, but even though they get whatever is left after the fish have had a go, they've still had a nosh on my best plants by the next morning. (Not stupid, they don't go for the the cheep stuff – only the ones costing three quid a kick, and any yet-to-sprout-exotic-bulbs (their very favorites!)

Where do you draw the line – if you do..?

I just hate snails, so there is no line for me. If I see a snail in any of my tanks then it's out of there before you can say fish food.

Iam not sure what your question is, is it getting rid of something living or that their eating your plants. I keep snails, shrimp, and frogs in 1 tank and the tank is a mess you cannot keep snails and have a pretty planted tank thats just how it is . Snails in a river dont get vegs. so I figure they are going to go for the real thing plants. I have another tank I keep plant cuttings in for my snails, when they get big enough I just put them in the tank with the snails other then that I feed them goldfish pellets. Pat
