Hi Everyone! ;) I have been in school for the last while, i'm not even sure if anyone around here will remember me, but thats ok, i'm up for making some new friends! :D I really missed coming to this site, so i think i'll be back more now that i've gotten thru my first semester of college.

anyways as for my fishies, they're doing really well except for the freakin snails. I had to remove EVERYTHING from my tank except the fish and water in order to get out most of the snails and STILL they are sprouting up. I just dont know what to do anymore, maybe i should start naming them! :S

Well if anyone has ideas about how to get rid of the snails, let me know!
Spanks a million :)

I have the same problem, I have plenty in my endler's tank. I haven't tried to get rid of them yet, but this is what I plan to do.

From what I've heard you put some lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, etc. in the tank, wait, and when its "full" of snails just toss it out. I don't know how well this method works, but I'm sure it's worth a try :) I'll probably have even more now, I just bought some more plants. I think there is a pinned article on this in the snail forum, or somewhere ;)

Thanks! i'll try that!! and cute endler pic! my bf has one of those, hehe i got it for him. they are too cute!

Thanks, I wuv my little guys

Took me forever to find some, now I have around 27 :D

If the lettuce and cucumber thingy doesn't work, I would recommend two clown loaches??? If you only have a small tank then once they have eaten all the snails you can always sell them on... They only grow one inch per year but will eventually reach 12" so I'd be careful! :p
Hope this helps! :)

I have got this same problem (again) now!!

in the past I've used the 'get rid manually method' with cucumber etc..it takes so long and eventually I have had to strip the whole tank completely to get rid of them

this time...today...I bought some 'snail rid' stuff

on the bottle it says.....'wear gloves WHEN you use this treatment'!!!!!!!!!

oh my goodness...what the heck will it do to my fish then!!!!

so I am hesitating now to use it!

HAS ANYONE EVER USED THIS CHEMICAL TREATMENT TO GET RID OF SNAILS???
ANY FISH FATALITIES in the process???

I have had the same problem.

I can confirm that lettuce seems to work best, though cucumber and courgette (zucchini)also work but the pieces are smaller so less come out with each piece.

If you are using this method, best to put the veggies i then turn the lights off for a couple of hours, then pick it out and toss em.

In the past I have taken the snails out and given them to people who have snail eating fish.

Now though I have the answer for small tanks, last weekend I bought 3 Bengal loaches (Botia Dario), they didn't seem to be doing much but just done a water change and there are hundreds of empty snail shells that came out during gravel vac :kana: and very few snails to be seen in the tank.

Edited for horrific spelling
