Howdy, I'm curious...What sort of snail would be compatible with my betta. His tank does not have a lid... so, would the snail get out? Or should I wait until I upgrade his tank?

No lid? EEek, I would get one anyway, they do jump lol
Well some betta will kill the snail but my girls live with apple and ramshorn and leave them alone. I've had males kill ramshorn though.

I've never had any problems with him jumping. Only time he's ever even tried jumping is when I treat him to some bloodworms. So, should I try to stick an apple snail in with him? Or just maybe a few ghost shrimp instead?

I think Bettas will eat the shrimp.

My girls like to eat the snails that came with my plants.

You could find your appple snail wandering all over the tank (inside and out) if there isn't a physical barrier to stop it. Having said that you have to leave an air gap between the water level and the lid for apple snails as they also require access to air and lay their eggs above the waterline (with the most common forms) :)

Personally I'd wait til you upgrade :D

Aye, next chance I get I'm going to buy a 5 gal Biorb. Though, for right now...I think I might try putting a shrimp in with him to see how he reacts to it. He's a very laid back fish.

If anyone thinks this is a bad idea....step up now because I'm going to be heading out to the fish-store soon.

How did the shrimp intro go? :D

I am going to put cherry reds in with my girls after trying them with an amano first. Plenty of places for the shrimp to hide is the key I have found out :D

Got to the store and they had just sold the last of their shrimp....gah!

I was tempted to buy an apple snail but...From what I hear they poop a lot which...Isn't what I need in my bowl... So, I'm gonna wait to get anything until I can buy a biorb or some 5gal hex thing.
