Hi Everyone,

Had my BiUbe about 3 months now and all is well.

I must not have washed a plant or 2 as well as I should have before putting them in though, as now I seem to have a fair few snails in the tank.

I fish them out regularly as they seem to eat some of the plants, but other than that they don't seem to do much harm.

There does seem to be a never ending supply of them though.

So I thought, rather than fish them out when I can see them, why not get a fish or 2 that actually like eating them?

Can anyone reccomend any snail eaters?

I currently have few fish - 2 Harlequin Rasboras, 2 Neon Tetras (soon to add a few more), and a small guppy (soon to get him a pal).

If I could find a snail eater that would be safe with the other inhabitants, that would be a good solution I feel.

Any tips?

Since Biube's are a bit under 35l (8 ish US gallons), they are tens of times too small for anything that eats snails, plus if they still come with that rubbish filter and horrible ceramic stuff, you can't keep any bottom dwellers on it. Besides which, once all the fish are in correctly sized groups, the tank will be vastly overstocked (as it is a tiny tank with small surface area and a pretty awful filter).

Excellent.

I'll just flush the lot now and bin the BiUbe.

A bigger tank would be a good idea, BiUbes, Orbs etc. are designed without any thought about practicalities. For now, reccomended anti-snail solutions (although effectiveness varies) include leaving in a slice of cucumber overnight and then taking it out (hopefully covered in snails) in the morning, the same with lettuce or other similar things, just taking them out by hand, or not overfeeding (which is normally the cause). Anti-snail medications are not a good idea, they kill the snails but then you're left with all the bodies rotting in the tank, which isn't good.

Thank you.

A little more constructive :good:

The first reply was constructive, you asked if you could add a snail eating fish, I said no in a constructive and informative fashion. Then you got narky, so I thought I might as well reply again.
