It is all too easy to get snails into a tank,on plants etc. Some people hate them others not bothered. Some saying they carry disease. Are they good or bad for your tank??

Well as far as I can tell so far, they multiply very quickly but do eat some algae. Some peaople say just squash them om the inside of the tank if you get too many. Personally I can't do this so I take them out and feed them to my clown loaches in another tank. The other option is to remove them and put them on the compost heap.

Depends on the snails and the tank!
  • A tank with sand or fine gravel - Malaysian trumpet snails are great
  • A tank with plants - Pond or Ramshorn sanils are bad.
  • A tank with algae & tough plants like JavaFern or Crypts - Pond & Ranshorn snails are good.
  • A tank with puffers or loaches - pond & Ramshorn snails are food

Yup snails dont last too long in my tanks (loach extermination team) :D
