i've got a 10g tank set up for shell dwellers, either occies or multies, i heard that snails keep the tank clean so what should i get? i heard something about MTS snails but i don't know what that is. so when you name snails make sure it's the name i could find it as at a lfs or on google : ) thank you!

Snails produce as much waste as they clean up so it's misleading. They merely transform the waste from one form to another. I'm going to be trying apple snails with my shellies but this isn't for cleaning but decoration. MTS are Malaysian Trumpet Snails and good for digging in the substrate but again, they are no replacement for proper tank maintanence.

Snails, in my opinion are great for the tank. They eat any uneaten food, move the substrate around and eat algae. For a fairly bare tank I think they are great. Any old 'pest' snails or Malaysian Trumpet snails (MTS) are fine in most cases. Apple snails you may have more trouble with, due to them being attacked.

I'm still in need of getting some 'pest' snails for my shell dweller tank.

I have plenty of pests if you want them. I've actually gotten a minor outbreak in my apple tank. I don't know where/how they got in there but they've taken off. I might toss them in my shellie tank instead if I see signs of aggression towards the apples.

I`ve got apple snails in with my shelliesThey live in there no problem.
