ive read on here that puffers eat snails and some people breed them specifically for their puffers.

are they the snails that seem to appear in ur tank from plants, and breed like crazy, or are they a certain 'type' of snail?
ive also seen that some people feed them mussels, are they special mussels bought from the lfs or mussels bought from tesco.

Those snails that "breed like crazy" and come on your plants are exactly the ones I breed for our Green Spotted Puffer. He loves 'em.

I would still set up a separate tank to breed them in -- some live plants, small heater, fine mesh over the filter intake (to keep from gobbling them up when they're small), and slightly overfeed it.

Without the separate tank, any puffer would surely eliminate any possibility of snails being alive long enough to breed.

cheers!

Hi Jenny

I feed mine fresh mussels and frozen prawns from tesco. Just look at the labels that there are no additives.

I figured I'd add to my original post.

Snails are not the only thing we feed our GSP. I've had success with frozen bloodworm, which I've read will also help keep their teeth trimmed. Occasionally he'll eat Krill as well. While the bloodworm is mainly his staple diet, I try to "mix it up" as often as possible to keep him from getting too picky.

cheers.
