Flubenol is good stuff - takes a few weeks (as said) to sort all snails. The ammonia is still an issue without fish as it can be an algae trigger - no good ridding yourself of snails (which in all likelihood will come back with new plants inthe future anyhow!) to find you get a nice big algae bloom
