Only fish i no that eat snails is the clown loach and you need massive tanks to keep them.

There is another way to get snails out of your tank and that is to put a piece of lettuce into your tank before you go to bed and then when you wake up remove the lettuce and you will find most of the snails attached to the lettuce.

HTH :)

Actual most loacghes love to eat snails. The yo yo loach gets to 3 inches and loves snails.

Whats the latin name for the yo yo loach?

Botia ???????

Reason being I am after some of these and I never know their proper name.

I have 2 yoyos that are 6"

the scientific name for yoyos is botia almorhae

as suggestend most botias will eat snails, try botia striata,
as they don't get much bigger than 3"

on a side note
I witnessed one of my apple snails eat a ramshorn snail the other day
he moved over it and after a ew mins the broken shell of th ramshorn
was spat out.

That's funny
I can just imagine a snail "running" afetr another snail
lol

Ya most loaches will eat your snails

I don't know if it's just me though, but my bettas eat the smaller snails I think because they keep on disappearing

Does anyone know what fish would eat snails in the aquarium. I want to avoid using chemical snail control. There is only the odd snail now and then. :fish:
Botias, I've had Rosy Barbs eat young snail too.

Bengal Loaches (Botia Dario), I got 3 and within a week I was vacuuming tons of empty shells out of the tanks.

They haven't wiped out the ramshorn snails though their numbers are greatly reduced, but the mystery snails are now extinct in my tank

The cucumber and lettuce trick works to a certain level, though you really need the lights out for a couple of hours before removing them as they will come out to eat with the lights off.

Also cut down on your feeding, if the snails are multiplying rapidly it indicates that there is too much food left around at the bottom of the tanks for them eat, and if your fish aren't eating it all you are giving them too much. That said, when I cut the feeding down, the snails decimated my plants :grr:

Good luck

After I got my Clown Loaches, the snails dissapeared , If I remember correctly the Golden Ear Killie, Fundulas Chrysotos ( Spelling ?) killed them too, along with hydra. KF

You may want to try the skunk loach. (Botia morleti)
The one problem with them is they has really nasty attitudes. They are like the terrors of the loach world

No pun intended but the Pakistani loaches are little terror spreaders

Other snail busting alternatives..........Puffers, doraidae (raphael cats) prochilodus (u gotta have a big tank for these) chinese algae eaters tend to chew at them till they die as well, not very pleasent i know but effective
