I have a planted 29, one that got what's left of my 75 gallon I broke down for a grow out tank. Here's the problem, I don't mind some plant snails, but there's a limit, I mean, there's got to be some population control goin on. I have snails on top of snails in here, and I want em gone. I had a couple yoyo loaches, nothing doing. I had some kuhli and horseface loaches, same result. I can't stand clown loaches (up all hours hassling the other fish) so are there any good alternatives to these fish? I know clown loaches are good for the job, but I REALLY don't like them, and want something else.

Snails reproduce directly in proportion to the available food. Clean the substrate up, make sure to remove any dead leaves, and cut back on the amount of food for the fish. It will take a week or so, but you'll notice significantly less snails.

or try Ladder loaches...

they look very similar to Yo-yo's (the pakistani loaches) but dont get a big.

we had tons of snails in our 15gal and now only have a few. ok so the ladders havent iraddicated them totally - but the populaton is under control and barely noticeable.

I have heard that Megalodoras irwini and Leporinus fasciatus are highly efficent snail eaters along with a few others. However, this fish will get to big for your tank so I would consider a smaller species of Botia. Botia dario or Botia striata may have some effect but to a fast breeding snail population the effect can be limited.

The substrate in there is as clean as sand can be, I just set that tank up about 2 weeks ago, and right now, the only fish in there are 4 little corydoras julii, and 2 corydoras metae. I feed them a tiny bit twice a day, and change water 35% weekly. I may try and find some botia I like, but it seems like the ones I really like, aren't good snailers. Like the dwarf chain botia. I may try skunk botias, I dunno..
