Hi all :)

I just got two fake plants from Pets at Home - as soon as I opened the packet I noticed one of them was very smelly (a strong plastic / chemical smell).  The other one didn't smell at all, they are both the same type.

I soaked it is warm water for a few hours, but it still smells.  Would you guys put it in the tank, or would you return it?

It was this plant:  http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/fish-tank-ornaments--plants-and-gravel/large-aquatic-kings-sword-plant?i=45&pageSize=45#

I bought a fake plant which smelled very strongly of plastic when i opened it, put it in my tank anyway (this was before adding fish) and the smell used to be very pungent still through the water, after a few months, the dye from the plant started leaching into my water and the plant started rotting, i would not put anything like that in my tank again.

But that is just my experience, better safe than sorry in future, i'd try and get a refund if i were you.

to TFF!
If it's unpleasant I'd return it - even if it doesn't do any harm, it's not going to be enjoyable if it makes you wrinkle your nose every time you go near the tank!
What tank set-up/s have you got?

Id take it back also, you pay for a product that needs tower customer standards if there's a problem return it and see if they can replace it.
I've used pets at home fake plants whilst waiting for my planted plants to grow and they've never smelled.

Thanks for the replies guys!

So it looks like it will have to go back, the plant still smells - and you are right it's not worth taking the chance.

I have a 60L tank with 10 neon tetras, a bristlenose pleco and a few cherry shrimp. :)
