Okay,

SO now that the fin trouble has subsided. (the betta is doing well) I took back the danios and platies to the lfs.

I came home with 4 mollies 2 angles and 5 neons. (i now have 4 neons, and am sure the angles or bichir got to the other)

Tank has been running well, I continued with the melafix upon putting in the new stock, just in case. I also added some Stability. Things have been fine for a couple days.

Today I woke up and noticed a "pesticide" smell when I walked in the living room. I thought they maybe had sprayed outside or something.

Throughout the morning I kept smelling it, right around the tank. Finally, I opened the lid and WHOOSH! It smells like the Orkin man spent the night in my tank.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? I tried to search, but it seems that no one has posted about this smell before.

:(

Thanks!

PS. Levels are all perfect, fish are happy and water is clear. It just REALLY smells!!!

okay, i just called the apt complex managment to find out if someone in the complex had been sprayed recently, as we just found a cockroach, well, the cat found a cockroach.

Low and behold, the apt beneath us had sprayed, so the roaches are running into nearby apts.

WHY would my tank hold this smell? How do I get it out?

Hmhmhm, I dunno how the aprt. chemicals chould affect the smell of the tank, but I know it could affect the fish inside the tank.
have you done recent water changes? If it really bothers you, maybe a small water change every day would help with the smell?

Make sure you have plenty of chemical filtration during this period.
Pesticides especially can be very lethal, especially to angels and tetras.

You can get smell removers in a medium as well, and chemicals.
In my experience, the smell relates to nitrogen, this doesnt seem to be your case.
