Willing to spend anythingon this, any reviews on the best smallest most quiet filter for 60L tropical tank? Mine looks like it takes up half the tank and rattles like crazy - spoils my tank and noisy for bedroom! Many thanks

A Tetra Tec EX700 would be great for your tank, Quiet and its an external filter so even better.

+1 for tetratec ex700, running one on my 90L that's so close to my bed that it's touching my pillow  , all i can hear at night is my DIY CO2 bubbling away :X.

Good :) sounds perfect for me then! Where do you put the external, just on the outside or I think someone mentioned it has to be lower than the tank or something? Thanks

U could fit the filter inside the unit that the tank is sat on, you would need to put 2 small holes in the back of the unit so the pipes can run to your tank.

This way the filter will be out of sight. Check out the link in my Sig to my Arc60 tank, it will give you an idear of how much room will be saved by using an external filter.

cristalprofi e700 externals are impossible to hear! fluval internal u1 to u4 range are likewise!

Tetratec filters are fantastic, as are eheim and fluval externals. Most external filters have to be lower than the tank because it's a gravity-fed syphon system which eliminates the need for more than one moving part and in turn eliminates most excess and unwanted noise. :)

i'd run a JBL e700...
